I retired from CPS 12 years ago. The very problems you addressed were always problems. No one wanted any questioning. Libraries were being underused and underfunded. Now I know there are few libraries and not even in all high schools. CPS does not want real education; they want puppets and want to spend money on whatever is their desire of the day

I am a future teacher and I hope future teachers are paying close attention to the events that are unfolding in Chicago. Those of us in Illinois public institutions have uncertain graduation dates due to the budget that aims to divest public higher education. It is commonplace to discourage and deter future educators from the work they are about to embark on, as if to dare you to take on the challenge. Thank you for taking the triple-dog-dare, and standing up and speaking out for what everyone who is paying attention agrees with. #standwithtroy

I wish I had the pleasure of working for a principal like you. A principal that cares about students, parents, and teachers is very rare. If I had worked for you, I probably would not have retired early. I got tired of principals who were always biting at teachers (One even cussed at teachers in her office where there were no witnesses and yelled at teachers in the hallway.) I got tired of teaching for a test. We seemed to always be testing. I even had one child tell me, “We sure take a lot of tests in 2nd grade.” Students and teachers were under so much stress that they hardly ever smiled.
Is there an update to your situation?

If I had a principal like you, one that cared about students and teachers, I probably would not have retired early. I commend you for taking a stand for students, parents, and teachers.
